Grade 316L is part of the ASTM A182 standard, which covers valves, flanges, fittings, and other components exposed to pressure and temperature. This standard is classified under stainless steel materials. Grade CF8M is a type of forged stainless steel.
The buyer is responsible for specifying the grade of items such as valves, fittings, flanges, etc., that need to be procured. This selection depends on the design requirements, operating conditions, mechanical properties, high-temperature specifications, or corrosion resistance characteristics.
All casting grades, such as 316, 316L, 304, 304L, must undergo appropriate heat treatment to meet the required design and chemical specifications.
Grade 316L, a type of forged stainless steel, has the following chemical properties as outlined in the table below.
| Carbon % | Manganese % | silicon % | sulfur % | phosphorus % | Chromium % | Nickel % | Molybdenum columbium (niobium) % |
| 0.035 | 2 | 1 | 0.03 | 0.045 | 16-18 | 9.0-12.0 | 2.0-3.0 |
The mechanical properties of Grade 316L are as follows:
| TENSILE STRENGTH KSI (Mpa) | Yield strength ksi (Mpa) | Elongation in 2in. Or 50mm |
| 70 (485) | 25 (170) | 30 |
