Butterfly Valve

Categories

Butterfly valves are a type of rotary valve used for throttling and regulating the flow of liquids and gases. They use a round disc or a vane that rotates around a central axis to control flow, typically rotating up to 90 degrees from fully closed to fully open. These valves are commonly used in pipelines that carry low-pressure liquids and gases. Due to their design, they are not recommended for high-pressure systems where leakage might occur.

Key Characteristics:One of the key advantages of butterfly valves is their ability to be installed in either direction along a pipeline, thanks to their bidirectional design. As technology advances, butterfly valves have increasingly replaced gate valves in many applications.

Types of Butterfly Valves:

1. Based on Working Pressure
1. 1. Low-Pressure Butterfly Valves: These valves operate in cold conditions, with moderate flow pressures at ambient temperatures. The disk and seating are typically concentric, and these valves have pressure classes of 150 or 300.

1. 2. High-Performance Butterfly Valves: Designed for higher temperatures and pressures, these valves require harder materials in the seat due to the extreme conditions they face.

2. Based on Body Type:
1. 2. Wafer Type Butterfly Valves: These are compact and designed to fit between flanges, making them easy to install in confined spaces.

2. 2. Lug Type Butterfly Valves: These valves have threaded lugs that allow for the removal of the valve without disturbing the pipeline, offering additional flexibility in certain installations.

Material:

Carbon Steel: Commonly used in industrial valves, ideal for non-corrosive fluids and capable of withstanding temperatures up to 425°C.
Stainless Steel: Offers excellent corrosion resistance and is used for high-temperature environments, sometimes up to 800°C.

Other Materials: Cast iron, brass, bronze, and specialized alloys can also be used depending on the application, including WCB, LCB, CF8, CF3, CF8M, CF3M, and WC6.
