A flow meter (also known as a flow gauge) is an accurate instrument used to measure the mass or volume of fluid passing through a pipe per unit of time. A flow meter measures linear, nonlinear, mass, or volumetric flow of a liquid or gas. Most flow meters consist of three parts: the primary device, the converter, and a transmitter. The converter senses the fluid passing through the primary device, and the raw signal from the converter is then transmitted and converted into usable data via the transmitter.
