Temperature Gauge

Bimetallic Instruments

Categories

A temperature gauge is one of the most commonly used instruments for measuring the temperature of fluids. It is typically installed on pipelines or tanks and provides local temperature readings. The value taken by the temperature gauge or thermometer can be displayed locally

Types of Temperature Gauges:

  • Bimetallic Dial Temperature Gauge

This type of temperature gauge consists of two distinct metal pieces that are bonded together. When heated, the bimetal strip bends due to the expansion of metals as the temperature changes. The amount of bending is proportional to the temperature change, and the thickness of the metals is inversely related to this change.

  • Capillary or Stem-Type Temperature Gauge

These gauges are used in environments with very high temperatures or where direct contact with the fluid is not possible. The temperature probe is connected to the sensor via a capillary tube or stem, allowing it to be positioned away from the sensor for measurement. This design enables readings in locations that are hard to access directly.

  • Gas Actuated Temperature Gauge

This type of temperature gauge operates based on the changes in gas pressure. As the temperature changes, it causes the pressure of a neutral gas trapped within a chamber to vary. These pressure changes are directly proportional to the temperature variations, providing accurate temperature readings.
