Foot Valve

A foot valve is a type of one-way or check valve that allows fluids to flow in only one direction, preventing backflow. This valve is essential in applications where a pump is used, such as drawing water from an underground well. A foot valve helps prime the pump by allowing water to flow towards it while preventing the water from flowing back into the well. By retaining water within the pipe (the section between the pump and the bottom of the well), the valve ensures that the pump does not lose prime, eliminating the need to wait for water to reach the pump each time it is restarted. This also reduces strain on the pump, contributing to its longevity and efficiency.
